Stolen Bases

I didn’t quite know how to title this thread.  My thoughts are all over the place when it comes to this issue.  In my earlier post, I talked about the San Francisco Giants being up 3 games to 1 on the Philadelphia Phillies and listed some team stats and where they rank.  The Giants were tied for last in all of MLB this year with 55 steals, and they’re 1 game away from the WS.

Comparing the 8 playoff teams from this year doesn’t do a lot for an argument on either side.  Here are the 8 playoffs teams and where they ranked in stolen bases this year in MLB.

Tampa Bay Rays—1st–172 steals

Texas Rangers– 7th– 123

Philadelphia Phillies–10th—108

New York Yankees–12th—103

Cincinnati Reds–15th—93

Minnesota Twins–26th—68

Atlanta Braves–27th—63

San Francisco Giants—30th—55

The Cardinals, by the way, were 22nd with 79.

I was surprised when I saw the Twins with fewer than the Cardinals.   I’d like to go back to previous years and see where teams rank.  I think a lot of fans would like to see the Cardinals with more speed, as would I, but the Giants might just win it all while tied for last in all of MLB.
